Heroes.

What is a hero?

From Dictionary.com

Basically,a hero saves life and helps others. He does it out of his own will, not to gain fame or popularity. He's (in comics and cartoons/shows) always battling against villains and he doesn't always win but he never gives up.He hangs on till the last minute.

Recently the superhero craze is kinda back on with the avengers, spiderman etc, but my favourite superhero will always be Batman. Why?Cause unlike most superheroes,Batman has absolutely no superpowers.Spiderman can shoot webs,Superman can fly but not Batman. What Batman has is his own knowledge, skills and athletic prowess. Even without superpowers, Batman still, ultimately saves the day. What this really proves is that you don't need any superpowers to be a hero, you can still help others without any extraordinary talents.Another reason why I admire Batman is that despite his past- he witnessed his own parents' murder when he was a kid, leaving him as an orphan, you'd expect him to want to take revenge by killing villains, he is nothing like that.He is unwilling to take life, regardless of the situation he is in.

We were talking about heroes in chinese class and wulaoshi told us about this singaporean doctor called Alexander Chao who flew back to Singapore from America (he was on a holiday/overseas trip with his wife) to treat patients infected with the SARS virus during the 2003 SARS outbreak. He spent everyday researching on SARS and finding out how to cure it.Tragically, he died after being infected by SARS himself. He could've just stayed in america and not care about those in singapore but still,he flew all the way back just to treat people. How many people will actually do that? Most would just be selfish and just hide at home, but he was different.

That's why I want to be either a doctor/ open an orphanage in the future.I want to do something will help benefit the community.I want to reach out to those in need and help them. I don't want to think this after I go up to heaven:"What have I exactly done on this earth? What significant contribution have I made to make this world a better place?" I want to help out at disaster sites, treating the injured and  rescuing people. Some people who wouldn't their family to do this kind of seemingly "dangerous" stuff but think about it, your family member may have passed down as a result of doing this kind of stuff but they died for a good cause, not in vain. They died trying to help others in this world who are not as well off as us.Shouldn't you be proud instead? After reading Sam's blog, I suddenly feel like having the passion to be those kind of overseas doctor, traveling to places like africa to treat people there.Sure,I may not earn much as i would if i worked at a hospital or something but helping the poor and needy who don't even have the money to see a doctor, that's what I really want to do.

You don't have to be gifted with something, you just have to have a passion for helping and the right skills and values, and you can be a hero(:

PS:I think the left the topic already but ah whatever i cant bear to delete this post,I spent too much time:P
